CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Hardknott Pass from the east

Ride 1.1 mile gaining 568’ at 10.1% average grade.

Not quite as long or as steep as the west side of the pass (1.4 miles at 13.5%) this side is still quite the challenge.  Daunting from the start with a 30% gradient sign with a giant exclamation mark on top and 3 signs warning about the road, this one will challenge the best of climbers.

Hardknott East is the bad little brother to the Western side of the mountain. Hardknott Pass East, begins at a river crossing in a remote valley deep in the heart of the Lake District. Short, and brutally steep, the Eastern side's profile is in view from the start point, just as on the Western side. Although just over a mile, the gradients will have you begging for mercy. Similar to all of the climbs in this area, you can expect steady traffic to flow on this narrow road. Sightseers, hikers, cyclists and the like all flock here to enjoy the remarkable sights on display.

Climb begins at Cockley Beck Farm.

About 200 meters from the pass.

The final 16% for 3/10’s of a mile beginning at one half mile.

The top.

That’s a wrap!!
